Farewell to the voice of sport on TV,

Giampiero Galeazzi

has died

.

Journalist and former rower, he was 75 years old and had been ill for some time.

Born in Rome, he was also known by the nickname of Bisteccone, due to his size.

His sports chronicles are memorable.

'Dad is now happy, he's on a boat, he's rowing on his Tiber': his daughter Susanna remembers him in a post on Facebook.

Unforgettable, for example, remain his commentaries of the Abbagnale brothers, in what had been his first love, rowing.

Giampiero Galeazzi, when he exalted the Abbagnale brothers

Born in Rome on May 18, 1946, in his youth, after graduating in Economics,

Giampiero Galeazzi

worked for a short period in the marketing and advertising office of Fiat, in Turin, he had become a rowing professional, winning the Italian singles championship in 1967 then in the double with Giuliano Spingardi the following year, participating in the selections for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, he had become a rowing professional.

Then he joined Rai as a sports journalist first on the radio and then on TV, first on Domenica Sportiva and then on Wednesday Sport.

He is remembered in the commentaries of sporting events such as the mythical gold medal of the Abbagnale brothers in Seoul in 1988. In the Eighties he was also sent by the DS for the most important matches of Serie A. Galeazzi was also sent to Rai for the meeting of Reykjavik between

Gorbachev and Reagan

in 1986 and then went on to conduct historical broadcasts such as "90th minute" from 1992 to 1999 and participated in the 1996 Sanremo festival with Pippo Baudo.

In May 1987, Napoli won the first championship with Maradona on the pitch and at the final whistle Galeazzi was the protagonist of the blue party.

His exchange with Diego was memorable, Galeazzi entered the team's locker room and left the microphone to Maradona, the interviewer version.

In 2010 and 2012 he participated in World Nights and European Nights, both Rai broadcasts.

The last appearance of Giampiero on television dates back to three years ago on Domenica In.

The messages of condolence

"I am saddened by his death: Galeazzi introduced us and rowing, he spurred us on. He was an important character for us, he introduced us to the general public: it was as if the crew were made up of four and not three elements. We can say that it was like a 'four without': it was very, very important for us. It has been close to us for more than 20 years ". Thus

Peppiniello Di Capua, helmsman of the brothers Carmine and Giuseppe Abbagnale

, reminds ANSA of the figure of Giampiero Galeazzi. "He has always followed us, how many dinners together, he was like a brother to us: we esteemed him and loved him", he adds.

"In this moment I am sad: Giampiero has accompanied not only our sporting life in an intense and all-encompassing way, but over time he has also become a family person, with whom this union was created. A character also sui generis if you want, but with him voice and sporting enterprise became one thing. And that commentary is the history of TV ".

Giuseppe Abbagnale

, with his brother Carmine, won the Olympic gold in rowing in Seoul '88 but that feat is one with Galeazzi's commentary. "With him - Abbagnale tells ANSA, currently president of the federation - I have always had a true, loyal relationship. With Giampiero there has always been empathy".

"My big steak ... an important piece of my life goes away ...".
