He no longer had control of his truck and was in critical health: a truck driver left a 30-kilometer path of destruction on Autobahn 3 behind him on Saturday evening.

The 48-year-old had "apparently due to a medical cause" lost control of the truck, the police said.

Other road users were not injured during the accident drive through Lower Franconia, but the vehicle collided with the guardrail several times and ran over numerous warning beacons in the area of a construction site. Road barriers were damaged in such a way that they partially protruded into the opposite lane.

The police, who were informed in the evening about the lorry driving in a serpentine line, were able to spot the lorry with a patrol in the area of the Würzburg-Kist junction and tried to draw the driver's attention with a flashing light, siren and stop signal - but the driver reacted not.

At the end of the chaos drive, the truck finally came to a halt at the exit from the Kitzingen junction.

There the officials were able to convince themselves of the critical health of the driver.

Rescue workers took him to the hospital.

Because of the numerous damage and lengthy clean-up work, the A3 was completely closed for a distance of about ten kilometers until the early hours of Sunday morning.

The route has now been reopened for motorway traffic.
