Early on Sunday morning a car crashed into a gas pump at a gas station on Autobahn 40 near Bochum.
The four occupants of the car were seriously injured and brought to the hospital, said the fire department.
A seriously injured person had to be freed from the car, the other three were able to free themselves from the vehicle.
Investigations into the cause of the accident
According to the fire brigade, 49 emergency services were on site.
Since the gas pump was also damaged, they cordoned off the area and prepared a foam extinguishing attack as a precaution.
According to a police spokesman, it was initially unclear why the car drove into the gas pump.
The police have started investigations into the cause of the accident.
