Investigators in North Rhine-Westphalia discovered almost one and a half million smuggled cigarettes during a check.
They came across the goods in a small truck registered in Poland, which they withdrew from traffic on Autobahn 2 near Verl and checked it, as the main customs office in Bielefeld announced.
In a parking lot, the officers discovered a total of more than 1.4 million smuggled cigarettes in the car - in 144 unlabeled boxes with 50 cartons each.
The driver did not provide any information about his load or his destination.
Customs also discovered 1.3 grams of cocaine in a fanny pack.
The man was provisionally arrested.
Criminal tax proceedings await him now.
