(ANSA) - MILAN, NOV 15 - Milan is not only the capital of publishing, but also of reading.
64% of Milanese over 14 read at least one book a year, compared to 56% of the national average.
This is what emerges from the Observatory of the Italian Publishers Association on the purchase and reading of books in the Municipality of Milan, created in collaboration with BookCity Milano based on data from PepeResearch and presented at the Cariplo Factory, as part of the Milanese event dedicated to books and readers.
This is especially true among young people. The Milanese are also the main Italian readers of e-books and audio books (39% against 26% of the Italian average), despite the fact that they frequent physical bookstores more than the rest of Italy. In particular, 90% of Milanese book buyers have bought in physical bookstores at least once in the last twelve months, in Italy only 73%. "This survey is our contribution to the city for an informed debate in view of the implementation of effective policies, for the promotion of reading and books in Milan - explained the president of AIE, Ricardo Franco Levi -.
We would like this to be the first step. towards a permanent Observatory on cultural consumption in the Municipality of Milan and in the metropolitan area ".
An important contribution, such as the one put in place in recent years by the Cariplo Foundation which, as its president, Giovanni Fosti explained, "wanted to launch a 3 million euro call to support reading because we believe that this practice is essential for inclusion purposes. social, cultural and therefore economic of citizens ".
