Reiner Calmund wasn't just a little fat.
His weight was the first thing many people thought of the ex-soccer manager.
His pounds made him the target of numerous comedians, even if their gags about the corpulence of the 72-year-old today rarely came close to anything like humor.
Calmund has now shown them too.
The sports expert and former manager of Bayer Leverkusen has drastically reduced his weight.
"I once had 180 kilos on my hips, now it's 90. So I've cut myself in half and I feel really great," Calmund told the "Bild" newspaper.
He's also shining on his new Twitter picture - and his face has also become significantly slimmer:
It was a difficult road to get to this result.
He made several attempts at dieting, he had once lost 30 kilos while dieting with the help of Joey Kelly.
Thanks to the yo-yo effect, it was often even fuller after them than before.
Complicated fat apron surgery
Calmund finally sought help from doctors, and in 2020 he underwent gastric surgery.
As a result, he lost a lot of weight in just a few months - and apparently lastingly.
He did sports, watched his diet.
In early summer, Calmund had the fat apron, which weighed more than ten kilograms and which hung limply from his stomach after the weight loss, removed.
"If you have such a big belly, then there are also blood vessels that multiply and enlarge - and that had to be deserted," he said at the time "t-online" about the hour-long operation.
Despite weight loss, Calmund continues to enjoy, according to him.
"Of course I still love delicious food," he told the "Bild" newspaper.
Apparently he no longer believes that he will ever be as fat as he used to be.
"I live very healthy and I am on the move a lot, my values are top."
Already in the RTL program "People, Pictures, Emotions" at the end of 2020, his wife Sylvia Calmund revealed that the clothes that were much too big had been donated to the Red Cross.
And: "Sometimes masks were made out of the shirts."
