Again and again, the most diverse foods are recalled due to contamination of all kinds or warnings are issued.
Now it hits a popular spice.
Darmstadt - When seasoning tomato sauce or pizza toppings, consumers should currently avoid the popular “Italian herbs” spice from the organic food company Alnatura.
The European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has issued a warning for the herbal mixture, which contains, among other things, marjoram, thyme, rosemary and onions.
The reason for this is contamination with bacteria of the type "Bacillus cereus".
Alnatura: bacteria in the spice that cause gastrointestinal complaints
According to
produktwarnung.eu
, the bacteria were found in the spice mixes from Alnatura. This applies to products with the best before date "L 88974, 07/2024". Furthermore,
produktwarnung.eu
writes
that the food concerned has been taken from the sale, but no end customer
information
has yet been published.
The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) published studies on the bacteria found in the spice.
This is because these occur every now and then in food.
The so-called “Bacillus (B.) cereus” group currently includes 17 different species.
The differentiation of these types is extremely complex and difficult.
The bacteria of the type can produce toxins, that is poisons, which can cause nasty health problems in humans after consumption.
Gastrointestinal disorders with vomiting and diarrhea can occur.
According to the institute, the complaints usually do not last longer than 24 hours.
However: no age group is immune from the infestation, so the bacteria can cause problems for young and old people.
Recall of organic product
Only recently, an organic tiger nut flour from the
borchers
brand was
recalled
in a nationwide campaign
.
The flour was contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
Like the "Bacillus cereus" type, this type of bacteria causes gastrointestinal complaints.
