After the draw with Montenegro, the Dutch path for next year's World Cup qualification is further complicated: coach Louis van Gaal fell and injured his hip after a training session.
The manager was optimistic, insisting to team captain Virgil van Dijk that his injury would not affect tomorrow night's crucial World Cup qualifier against Norway.
Van Gaal, 70, was cycling to his hotel yesterday after a training session when the accident occurred. "He was packing his bike at the hotel when he slipped and fell on his side," Van Dijk said at a press conference. "He went to the hospital for a checkup. We are very happy that he is still with us and that he can drive us tomorrow night," added the Orange captain. Speaking from his hotel room, Van Gaal told reporters that he is in "a lot of pain, that's why I'm here in a wheelchair." The images showed Van Gaal, sometimes nicknamed 'Iron Tulip' for his direct approach to training, arriving at today's training session on a golf cart. "I can still do everything. My brain is working and I have a lot of resources at my disposal, "Van Gaal said.
