The number of infections is increasing rapidly and require new restrictive measures.

In Bavaria, among others, the nationwide 2G regulation will apply from Tuesday.

But: does this also apply to supermarkets?

Cologne - Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder takes action.

In the fight against the corona pandemic, Söder is now choosing tougher measures.

From tomorrow, Tuesday, the nationwide 2G regulation will be expanded again.

Unvaccinated people had recently been denied access to cultural, sports and leisure activities.

As a result of the expansion, the regulation then also applies to restaurants and hotels.

In addition, there is a further tightening: everywhere where the 2G rule applies, there is now also the obligation to wear a mask.

Almost all areas of public life are now subject to the 2G regulation.

So only vaccinated and convalescent have access.

Could this also affect supermarkets such as Edeka, Lidl, Rewe and Co.?

Rewe Group for 2G regulation in the supermarket and hardware store

At the request of our editorial team, a press spokesman for the Rewe Group commented on the possible introduction of a 2G regulation in the branches.

Thomas Bonrath says: “The REWE Group's stores will not use the possibility of the 2G option model.” In addition to the grocery stores Rewe and Penny, the Rewe Group also includes the DIY chain Toom.

Bonrath also emphasizes: "The previous regulations in our markets have proven themselves very well in practice." By this he means wearing a mouth and nose cover and keeping distances.

The statements of the Rewe spokesman refer to the entire Federal Republic.

2G option model in two federal states

In Hesse and Lower Saxony, retailers were given the opportunity to introduce the 2G model.

Thus, among other things, the food companies can decide for themselves whether to deny access to unvaccinated people in their markets.

Other large grocery chains such as Kaufland, Lidl and Edeka rejected the 2G regulation at the end of October.

Now, however, the situation is different - to which even large supermarkets have to adjust.
