At the center of the investigation, during which a ton of cocaine from South America was also seized, the clan of the Piana di Gioia Tauro, its ramifications in Lombardy and Tuscany and the projections abroad.

The crimes charged to the suspects are, for various reasons, mafia association, external competition in mafia association, extortion, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, self-laundering, criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, production, trafficking and transfer of drugs, usury , fraudulent bankruptcy, tax fraud and corruption.
The investigations were carried out by the mobile teams of Reggio Calabria, Milan, Florence and Livorno, coordinated by the Central Police operational service.
The Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Como Finance Police also worked on the Milanese branch of the investigation.
