The fourth season of the sci-fi series "Star Trek: Discovery" starts on Thursday.

In other words, it starts, but will not initially be seen in many countries around the world, including Germany.

Because: ViacomCBS brings the Discovery home.

In the USA and Canada, the series from the Star Trek universe produced by CBS was shown from the start on the US broadcaster of the same name and then gradually on the streaming platform CBS All Access.

In Germany and other countries fans were able to follow the adventures of the spaceship Discovery via Netflix.

Trekkies around the world had hoped for this for season four as well.

But nothing will come of it at first.

ViacomCBS wants to distribute “Star Trek: Discovery” exclusively on the in-house streaming platform Paramount + (formerly CBS All Acess) in the future - from 2022 also worldwide.

As the industry service »Deadline« reports, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and Ireland are to be among the first of around 20 countries in which Paramount + is to be established as a brand.

A cooperation with the pay broadcaster Sky is planned.

The US streaming service HBO Max is currently finding its viewers for selected content in this way.

A launch date for "Star Trek: Discovery" - or for Paramount + itself - has not been announced.

A catalog full of Star Trek series that CBS produces are good selling points nonetheless.

It is easy to imagine that other CBS series such as "Star Trek: Picard" or "Star Trek: Lower Decks"

(both can be seen in Germany via Amazon Prime) will become exclusive Paramount + content worldwide.

A release on Paramount + is also planned for the offshoot "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" planned for 2022.

"As we are rapidly expanding our global streaming presence, we are bringing several of our top titles for Paramount + markets around the world to ViacomCBS home," said Deadline Kelly Day, head of ViacomCBS Network International.

The return of "Star Trek: Discovery" is "a further step forward".

In any case, on Netflix there are already no more episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery" available.

If you want to watch "Star Trek", "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Star Trek: Enterprise" again, you should probably hurry up.

The series are still available on Netflix in Germany, but not in the US since September.
