The wife of Mexico's most wanted drug trafficker, Nemesio Oseguera, aka "El Mencho", was arrested during a military operation in the west of the country. Soldiers arrested Rosalinda González Valencia in the city of Zapopan in the state of Jalisco, the Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday. She is said to be responsible for the finances of the drug cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). Accordingly, after her arrest, the ministry spoke of a "major blow to the financial structure" of the cartel.

CJNG has grown into one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the Latin American country over the past few years.

The cartel acts with great brutality against rival gangs and against state security forces.

In 2015, it shot down a military helicopter with a rocket launcher, killing eight soldiers and one police officer.

The US anti-drug agency DEA has placed a bounty of ten million dollars on cartel boss "El Mencho".

He is one of the most wanted criminals in the US and Mexico.

His wife, González Valencia, herself comes from an influential drug trafficking family.

According to the Defense Ministry, she has been charged with several crimes, including "the illegal financial operation of a criminal gang."

In May 2018, the »Narco Queen« had already been arrested on charges of money laundering, but was released on bail two months ago.

On Thursday, US President Joe Biden will receive Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for the first tripartite summit in five years in Washington.

A bilateral meeting between Biden and López Obrador is also planned, which will mainly focus on the issues of security and drug trafficking.
