After the end of her father's guardianship, Britney Spears spoke up with a video: "I'm just grateful," she said in the message published on her social media channels.
Thankful for "that I have the keys to my car, that I am independent and can feel like a woman, that I have a bank card, that I see cash for the first time, that I can buy candles."
It was "the little things" that made the big difference to their previous situation.
During the recording, Spears, dressed in black shorts and a top, rocks nervously from one foot to the other, but speaks directly into the camera.
The singer has been under guardianship since 2008 after suffering a mental breakdown due to personal and professional problems.
Last Friday, all conditions were lifted at a hearing in Los Angeles.
Spears had previously made allegations against her family and caregivers that they would control their lives and get rich from them.
According to her own admission, the singer now wants to get involved with other people affected.
"I'm here to stand up for people with real disabilities and real illnesses," said the 39-year-old.
“I'm a very strong woman, so I can only guess what the system has done to these people.” She hopes “that my story will make a difference and change the corrupt system”.
Spears closed the video clip with thanks to her fans, who had campaigned for the end of guardianship under the hashtag #FreeBritney.
"You are great," said the singer.
“To be honest, I think you saved my life in a way.
100 percent. "
Commenting on the video, Spears wrote that what her own family had done to her was demoralizing and degrading.
"And I don't even mention all the bad things they did to me that would all have them jailed for ... yes, including my churchgoer mother."
Spears also mentions that she wants to "put things right at Oprah" and linked US talk show host Oprah Winfrey.
This initially did not comment on a possible interview with the singer.
