Google has launched new tools and features for both readers and journalists, designed to give greater prominence to the news of local newspapers and sites, considered authoritative. In the Google News carousel, following the search for a term or phrase (for example "Covid infections"), these news will appear alongside national sources, thus acquiring greater relevance. The American giant has launched the novelty precisely to provide verified information on the pandemic theme, both regarding infections and vaccines, from the percentages to the indications of the local health authorities. "The algorithm update will ensure surfers have access to certified local stories, while looking for news of wider significance. This will help local sites and publishers reach a wider audience, "Google explained. Another feature involves activating the GPS sensor on smartphones, tablets and computers.
By enabling it, as would be done in the case of using the navigator on the phone, Google will be able to provide even more precise search results, incorporating the coordinates relating to the place where a user is.
"For example - explains the team - if you are in Detroit and looking for something about football, we will show you the results for local teams, from high school to college, instead of displaying only the professional team games".
A further integration will place the tweets sent from their official accounts alongside the titles and links of the searched sites and newspapers, to offer real-time updates on any news in the making.
The algorithm update has already been spread globally but will be gradually implemented in various countries.
