In a major raid against organized arms and drug dealers, the police in North Rhine-Westphalia arrested six men. The officers also seized almost 200,000 euros in cash, two live firearms, ammunition and several kilograms of marijuana. They also found a cannabis plantation under construction and amphetamine oil, which is enough to produce around 25 kilograms of amphetamine. The arrested men are between 29 and 39 years old. The officers temporarily arrested two other men, but released them shortly afterwards.
"Today's mission is the crowning glory of complex and covert investigations against organized crime," said North Rhine-Westphalian Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) of the dpa news agency.
"The group of offenders was extremely active in the arms and drug trade," said the politician.
As early as October and early November, the security forces had "blown up two cannabis plantations, which we attribute to those arrested."
47 objects were searched
The searches took place in twelve cities: Duisburg, Wuppertal, Herne, Dinslaken, Gladbeck, Essen, Oberhausen, Langenfeld, Ratingen, Hamm, Kamp-Lintfort and Gelsenkirchen.
A total of 47 properties were searched, including kiosks, apartments and warehouses.
The investigators of the Duisburg Criminal Police were supported by several hundred emergency services from the region, such as special units, operational hundreds and service dog handlers.
