This is a sad first in Europe since spring.
In the Länder (regions) of Salzburg and Upper Austria, from next Monday confinement will no longer be limited to unvaccinated only, as has been the case since the start of the week throughout Austria but to everybody.
In the Land of Salzburg, neighboring Bavaria, Governor Wilfried Haslauer of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) said on Thursday that there are "no more alternatives than confinement".
The seven-day incidence rate is 1,740 cases per 100,000 population.
In Upper Austria, this rate reaches 1,591, according to the Standart website.

As with previous confinements, residents will only be able to go out for essential needs (food purchases, exercise, access to medical care, and of course vaccinations).
The two Länder hope that these drastic measures can be lifted before Christmas.
Other Länder also have very high incidence rates.
Vorarlberg, Carinthia and Tyrol crossed the thousand mark in incidence, according to the Austrian newspaper.
Also experts and elected government ecologists push for a reconfinement of the whole country.
