(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 18 - "Italy, as a founding member, considers NATO an essential point of reference in terms of shared values, deterrence and defense. In this context, our country makes every effort to facilitate the adaptation process, by contributing in a relevant way to crisis management and to the security needs of our Allies ". Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini said this on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of NATO Defense College.

"We are - explained Guerini - in a highly volatile security context characterized by the rapidity of technological development, by the effects of climate change and, ultimately, by the economic and social implications of the Covid epidemic. All this has brought out the need to revisit the Strategic Concept ', with the aim of setting the Alliance's priorities at least for the next decade. This will have to take into account what has been done and what remains to be implemented, based on the enduring validity of the Alliance's three fundamental tasks: collective defense, crisis management and cooperative security ". "It is equally important - continued the minister - to take into account the lessons learned, descendants both from success stories but also from moments of difficulty such as Afghanistan, which confirm the need to maintain our crisis management skills, given the growing political and social precariousness we are experiencing in the areas adjacent to the 'borders' of the Alliance ".
