Queen Elizabeth, 95, reappeared today in public images during an audience granted to General Nick Carter, outgoing Chief of Staff of the British Armed Forces. This is the first appointment held by Her Majesty after the forced resignation on Sunday 14 - in spite of a confirmed participation just two days earlier - in the concluding rite of the Remembrance Day commemorations in honor of the war dead.

The Sunday flat rate had been charged by Buckingham Palace to a backache, after the period of rest from any external engagement or travel and travel imposed by the doctors on the sovereign since October. Period which lasted for several weeks and during which Elizabeth II also underwent a rare hospitalization of about 24 hours for unspecified investigations.

In any case, the queen received Carter on a farewell visit inside Windsor Castle, where she continues to concern herself, as she did last Wednesday with Boris Johnson in the usual weekly audience with the prime minister, not shown in public, however. The images released this time by the court showed her engaged in lively conversation, wearing a floral dress in shades of green, orange and white.

The monarch said she was "sad" about the general's farewell after "a long" service.

Carter agreed, noting that his tenure was the longest ever at the head of His Majesty's forces after that of Lord Mountbatten, uncle of the late Prince consort Philip.

However, Sir Nick concluded with a hint of a smile, "the time comes when you are ready to fold".
