Koray Aldemir from Berlin won the World Poker Championship in Las Vegas - and with it prize money of eight million dollars, which corresponds to around seven million euros.
At the final table, the 31-year-old German prevailed after 223 hands against the American George Holmes.
When Holmes went all-in, Aldemir won a doubles ten and seven against Holmes' royal couple.
"This is basically the one tournament that family and friends know," said Aldemir after the win. "It means a lot to me to win it."
In addition to the prize money, Aldemir also received a diamond-studded bracelet worth around 450,000 euros.
Aldemir was born in Berlin in 1990 and now lives in the Austrian capital Vienna.
For the 31-year-old, the win in Las Vegas was not the first big money win: In his poker career, he has already received prize money of several million euros.
After Pius Heinz in 2011 and Hossein Ensan in 2019, Aldemir is the third German winner of the World Poker Championship.
