“Attention… Light! », Patricia Favret launches to the customers of her bistro when she lights the street lamps in the neighborhood with her smartphone. This resident of Longpont-sur-Orge (Essonne) has adopted the “I light my street” application, a tool that allows her to manage public lighting remotely when it goes out around 11 pm. "We are the masters of the world", explains the owner of the restaurant "La Vierge", using her new power to return home while avoiding "complete darkness". For the sake of saving energy, for a year, the town hall has decided to turn off the lights in the town at night, until 5 am.
"It is estimated that we save around 50,000 euros per year," says Alain Lamour, mayor of Longpont-sur-Orge.
"The operation is also ecological", insists the elected official who says he wants to fight against "light pollution harmful to certain animal species such as bats".
Going around in complete darkness, or just equipped with a flashlight, proved to be anxious for some of the people administered during the cut.
“We are in the process of installing detectors on our streetlights but it is expensive and takes time.
In the meantime, we wanted to offer this solution to residents, ”says Alain Lamour.
