Austrian police officers hit a 15-year-old moped driver with their patrol car and fatally injured him.

According to a report from the police, he had fled from them.

Accordingly, the police became aware of the youth on Thursday evening near Tamsweg because he was driving too fast and without lights.

The community is located southeast of Salzburg.

Escape via a dirt road

The police followed him in the car with flashing lights and a siren.

However, the young person did not stop, but tried to escape via a dirt road.

There he fell for unknown reasons, according to the police.

The driver of the police car was then unable to prevent a collision with the moped and its driver, despite emergency braking and an evasive maneuver.

An emergency doctor tried to resuscitate the 15-year-old.

But he still died at the scene of the accident.

The state traffic department is now determining the course of the accident, together with the responsible state criminal investigation office.

The Salzburg public prosecutor's office ordered a traffic accident expert to be called in, the vehicles involved in the accident to be secured and the deceased to be autopsied.
