(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 19 - The 34th edition of the European FilmAwards, the European cinema oscars, will be held as a live streaming event from Berlin on Saturday 11 December.
The usual audience composed of Academy members, partners and guests of the film industry, international media will not participate in the ceremony: only the nominees and the winners will be present.
A choice dictated by the worsening of the Covid 19 pandemic in various European countries and in particular in Germany.
The multiplication of infections will affect all the events that normally take place during the Efa weekend.
"We are extremely sorry - explains Matthijs WouterKnol, CEO and director of the European Film Academy - and we realize that this decision will be a great disappointment for many in Europe. And we are also very disappointed. But faced with the responsibility for such an event, we do not see other choice. The risk would simply be too high. Now we will go forward by concentrating our efforts to make this event special anyway - for those who can participate and for those who will follow us at a distance. "
The procedures for awarding the prizes - for which Italy is nominated for best film, direction and screenplay with Paolo Sorrentino's E 'statala mano di Dio - will not be affected by the changes.
As always, the 4100 members of the European FilmAcademy will cast their vote for most of the prizes.
The ceremony will be broadcast and broadcast live streaming on https://europeanfilmawards.eu and on various partner websites.
