(ANSA) - ANCONA, NOV 19 - 'Nonna Peppina', aka Giuseppa Fattori, the old woman who became the symbol of the resilience of the earthquake victims, died. He would have turned 99 on 26 November. He had refused to leave a wooden house built near his home, reduced to a pile of rubble in San Martino di Fiastra (Macerata) by the 2016 earthquake. A small house declared illegal, but then 'remedied' by the 'Salva Peppina' law. The elderly woman, nominated Commander of the public by President Mattarella last February, had nevertheless made it in time to see the start of the works for the reconstruction of her real house in December 2020. But his case had paved the way for other rules in favor of the earthquake victims.
The funeral will be celebrated tomorrow at 15.00 in the sanctuary of the Beato Ugolino in Fiegni di Fiastra.
