Warning about dietary supplements - new recall affects two products
Particular caution is currently required with two sizes of calcium carbonate from the Warnke Vitalstoffe GmbH brand.
Anyone who swallows the chewable tablets could be threatened with health consequences.
Because, according to the manufacturer, it cannot be ruled out that the items contain “2-chloroethanol residues”.
This is known as a breakdown product of ethylene oxide and as an extremely toxic organic halogen compound (further product recalls and warnings from RUHR24 *).
Ethylene oxide is an extremely flammable gas and has a sweet smell.
It is used, for example, in disinfectants for food.
There have been several product recalls due to an increased value * of the chemical.
If you inhale or consume too much of it, you risk poisoning.
The substance is also considered to be carcinogenic.
Symptoms of poisoning may include dizziness, vomiting, and headache.
Other effects can include convulsions, twitching, and even coma.
However, it is not known what health effects the tablets affected by the recall will have.
The dealer does not provide any information.
Recall of tablets - do not swallow food supplements anymore
Nevertheless, it is important to check whether the recalled products are affected by the current product recall *.
The problematic items include the following tablets:
Calcium carbonate 500 mg chewable tablets 100 pieces LOT no.
1111220 and 1112220
Calcium carbonate 500 mg chewable tablets 500 pieces LOT no.
1151220 and 1152220
According to the manufacturer, the so-called LOT number can be found on the bottom of the can.
If you discover one of these codes there, you should not continue to use the product.
Instead, consumers should contact the retailer from whom they bought the product.
The reimbursement of the purchase price would then also take place via this point.
Recall of dietary supplements: Manufacturer leaves questions unanswered in the case of product warnings
Warnke Vitalstoffe GmbH does not officially provide any information about the retailers from which the problematic food supplements were available.
According to research by RUHR24, however, some online pharmacies offer these or similar products.
These include, for example, the “Shop Apotheke” and “Doc Morris”.
