#NousToutes: a strong mobilization expected everywhere in France this Saturday against gender-based violence

2021-11-20T10:27:47.204Z

Large processions should form in the afternoon in Paris, Rennes, Lille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse and in more than fifty

Determined to “shake up the country”, the feminist collective #NousToutes should be able to count on tens of thousands of people by its side this Saturday, in Paris and in many other cities of France, to say “no” to gender-based and sexual violence .

Thanks to this day of mobilization, the organizers aim to "demand public policies to match" this scourge.

The processions will be an opportunity to "cry out our anger" and "denounce the gap" between the "speeches (of the public authorities) and reality", hopes Marylie Breuil, of the feminist collective #NousToutes.

In Paris, where the demonstration had attracted 100,000 people two years ago according to the demonstrators (35,000 according to the police), the procession which will link Republic to Nation could again mobilize in numbers.

101 women killed since the start of the year

The means deployed against violence against women and feminicides are "derisory", despite the progress recorded since the "Grenelle" which was held two years ago, deplores Marylie Breuil.

Some 220,000 women are victims of violence each year, 94,000 are raped and 101 have been killed by their spouse or ex-spouse since the beginning of the year, notes #NousToutes.

Asked about this this Saturday morning on France Info, Minister Elisabeth Moreno, in charge of Equality between women and men, believes that "this figure is not decreasing" because of a too old existence in society.

“We have come so far on issues of violence against women.

(…) We realize that (despite) the 46 Grenelle measures that have been decided - whether it is the bracelet against reconciliation, serious danger telephones (TGD), support for victims with the 3919 - the subject remains still extremely significant.

"

The minister still allows herself a note of optimism in the face of dizzying numbers.

“Even if one femicide is always one too many femicide, since 2006 the numbers have been dropping,” she says.

Are things moving as fast as we would like?

No.

"

For the lines to move for good, feminist organizations estimate that the state should devote one billion euros per year to this fight, instead of 360 million today.

They also ask for "prevention" measures, which consist in particular in "teaching the youngest what consent is" and passing "a certificate of education in non-violence, on the same model as road safety" to middle and high school students.

A Christian procession for the first time in the march

The demonstrations, organized ahead of the international day against violence against women on November 25, will be an opportunity to "ask presidential candidates to put this question at the heart of their priorities," explained Marylie Breuil.

It's today.

We are demonstrating to say STOP to gender-based and sexual violence.

Feminist associations are also asking for an additional effort to create more accommodation places for women fleeing their violent partners. In such a situation, around 40% of victims are not offered any accommodation solution, and only 12% get a suitable place, with legal and psychological support, according to a report published Thursday by the Women's Foundation.

For the first time, a “Christian procession”, carried by “Christian feminist and LGBTQIA organizations”, announced that it would join the Parisian demonstration “around the victims of gender-based and sexual violence in our Churches”.

"The Christian institutions are numerous to lead violent fights to impose discriminating stereotypes" and a "hierarchy of sexualities", points out this collective.
