(ANSA-AFP) - MELBOURNE, NOV 20 - Thousands of people took to the streets today in major Australian cities to protect against Covid vaccination. In the country almost 85% of adults (over 16 years) are fully vaccinated and some states and territories have imposed the obligation of the vaccine for certain professional categories. In Melbourne, Victoria, several thousand people have called for the incarceration of the state's prime minister, Daniel Andrews, and have demonstrated against a bill that provides more powers for the local government to fight the pandemic.
Contrary to previous protests, no clashes with the police were reported.
According to police, up to 10,000 demonstrators have mobilized in Sydney alone.
At the same time, a counter-demonstration took place in Melbourne - one of the first since the start of the pandemic - of people in favor of the vaccine.
