Banana peel on his head, cup in hand: the former "Germany is looking for the superstar" winner Alexander Klaws, disguised as a garbage monster, won the ProSieben show "The Masked Singer". The 38-year-old got the most votes from the audience in the finale of the music guessing show on Saturday evening. Then he revealed his true identity. For several weeks he had hidden under the costume of a blue monster that lives in a garbage can, played jokes on stage - and delivered extremely entertaining performances. Sometimes the fluffy cattle sang soulfully like Whitney Houston, sometimes crackling like Rage Against the Machine.

"I put this head on and something happened to me," said Klaws about his transformation into Mülli Müller, as the wondrous creature was officially called.

"Some lever clicked and I went completely nuts." In the meantime, he has already done a lot in his career.

"But that's the hottest shit."

In 2003, Klaws won the very first season of the casting show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" (RTL).

After that he was known as a rather gentle pop singer.

His song "Take Me Tonight", composed by Dieter Bohlen (67), became a number one hit.

Later, Klaws switched to musicals and took on the lead role in "Tarzan".

In 2014 he also won the RTL dance show "Let's Dance".

That he could be stuck under the garbage monster mask had already been a hot tip. Above all, presenter Ruth Moschner, 45, who sat on the program's advice team, was impressed by Mülli. »My heart is pounding a little at Mülli Müller's. Because he's cute, ”she whispered before a performance. Of course it could also be Klaws, she later said on record. “But am I in love with Alex Klaws? No, not really. ”After the revelation, there could now be a need for clarification.

For Klaws, the job as a rubbish monster - a kind of good-humored version of rumble from the rain barrel - was hard work. “At some point I stopped counting the number of times I went black. Because: You just can't breathe underneath, "he said of the bulky costume. But that didn't stop him from running acrobatically across the stage. "Now we're tearing down the hut again!" Roared the fluffy cattle during their final song.

Klaws prevailed in the last vote against singer Sandy Mölling (40) from the pop band No Angels, who was exposed as a caterpillar on roller skates. In addition, at the end of the fifth season of the format, the Austrian pop singer Christina Stürmer (39) was exposed as a heroine and musician Carolin Niemczyk (31) by the band Glasperlenspiel as a pug. In the previous shows, »Tagesschau« head spokesman Jens Riewa (58) climbed out of a chilli costume and soccer world champion Pierre Littbarski (61) out of a disguise as a hammerhead shark.

With his victory, Klaws succeeded pop singer Sasha, 49, who won the fourth season as Dino.

This time he was chosen by the audience, unusually by phone and SMS.

ProSieben explained that there had been technical problems with the last app that was always used.

"The Masked Singer" ran for the first time on a Saturday evening.

More supplies will come soon: a special edition is running at Christmas.

In "The Masked Singer" celebrities appear as singers, but hide their true identity behind elaborate costumes.

The stars are exposed as soon as they don't get enough votes - or win at the very end.
