In Lower Franconia, walkers found a body on a cycle path. The investigators assume a homicide.

In the vicinity of Bad Neustadt an der Saale, passers-by discovered a dead person on Monday morning.

At around 6:15 a.m., the police received an emergency call, according to which a man was lying lifeless on a bike path next to a bicycle.

An emergency doctor could only determine the death of the man.

Police officers found injuries in the deceased, which gave rise to high suspicion of a homicide.

The further investigations were taken over by the criminal police in Schweinfurt.

Dozens of police officers secured traces at the site on the outskirts of the small town.

Dogs were also used on the paved bike path between Bad Neustadt and Hohenroth (Rhön-Grabfeld district) in Lower Franconia.

As the police headquarters in Lower Franconia and the Schweinfurt public prosecutor announced, the investigators assume that the man was violently killed.

The background is still unclear, but the victim has been identified.

It is therefore a 26-year-old from the Rhön-Grabfeld district.

The cause and time of death are still unclear.

There are also no suspects so far.

A possible murder weapon has not yet been discovered, it said.

The body of the 26-year-old should now be autopsied in forensic medicine in Würzburg.

According to the police, there were initially no indications that the case could be related to a homicide in Upper Franconia.

On the night of August 18-19, 2020, a 24-year-old man was out on his bike in a Bayreuth district when he was attacked with a knife in the dark and killed.
