The big donut parade - Walla! Food

2021-11-22T07:52:09.002Z

Hanukkah 2021: Where to buy candles to light candles? Where to buy pancakes? We tasted and came back with conclusions. Enter the full review >>

There are not many foods that are identified with Israeli holidays that are a consonant like donuts. Believe us, as those who every holiday try to recruit tasters for the traditional parade - the crooked nose that haman ears get, or the contemptuous look that honey cakes get, everyone suddenly leaves home, you will not find these at Hanukkah, no no. Just give people donuts. Or pancakes. If there's an argument here that resurfaces every year, it's between those who prefer the classic strawberry jam donut with powdered sugar, and those who love the colorful, garnished donuts, with the coatings and fillings, the ones between them and the original donut don't really have much connection left.

Indeed, in recent years, the vast majority of tasters actually tend to go back towards the classics, and the bakeries? Divided into two, those who are loyal to the classics and do it superbly, and those next to the classics, provide a little more interest.

One thing is for sure

- Almost all the donuts we tasted this year, were successful and very tasty.

The donuts were tasted by different tasters, and we tried to share as many people as possible, in order to get as many opinions as possible, even our children took an active part in the tasting.

So this time we chose not to officially rate, but simply to give you an opinion on each collection on its own.

Have a happy and delicious Hanukkah!

And if you want to make your own at home, here are all the Hanukkah recipes waiting for you, these are the recipes for the best donuts, and here you will find recipes for pancakes.

A Winning Classic - The Donuts of a Bread Bakery (Photo: Daniel Laila)

True Love: Bread Bakery

About the collection:

Uri Sheft's bakery offers classic donuts for Hanukkah (strawberry jam, milk chocolate, milk jam or no filling), as well as a collection of baked pancakes - potatoes and leeks with fried onions, sweet potato pancakes, spinach and cheeses.

What we thought:

Bread Bakery is probably the best example of how you can take the classic we all grew up on, be the most faithful to the original, and still upgrade it. . donut their plump and generous, full of powdered sugar and filling, with the dough wonderful and fragrant, irresistible. It should be noted that the area of pancakes doing here work very well, with quality ingredients, pancakes are good and fun for adults and children.

prices:

NIS 8 per donut, 5 shekels For the pancake, there are several options for accommodation packages.

Available at "Bread Bakery", can be ordered by delivery / self-collection

Greco's pancakes - stole the show (Photo: Gal Calderon)

Greco - Greece is here

About the collection: At

Greco Aquarius, the Greek deli from Greco, they offer Hanukkah traditional and airy Greek donuts - Lukmados, and a collection of plump pancakes in a variety of flavors.

What we thought:

We met quite a few intricacies in the donut sector this year, but if you want to break from the traditional donut - you will learn from Greco, this is how you do it. The Locomotive, the Greek version of the sponge if you will, completely wins here. No need for fillings or coatings, a ball of fried and good dough, dip in some quality honey, which comes on the side, and you are ready to light the regular candles.

Greco also played in the pancakes section, offering three types of pancakes here this year - zucchini, leeks and artichokes, some of the better pancakes we've had a taste of. Chubby, pampering, airy, and rich in flavors. We loved it very much.

Prices:

Pack of 8 Greek donuts - NIS 42, pancakes - NIS 56-62 for a pack of 8 pancakes, NIS 98 for a mixed pack of 12 units.

Most impressive - Roldan's donuts (Photo: Ronen Mangan)

Roldin: Wow effect

About the collection:

This year, too, Roldin unveils a special collection of handmade donuts, with a wide range of special flavors and textures.

12 donuts make up the collection, from the classic strawberry to the top of the patisserie, all inspired by trends, innovation and the last word of the French patisserie world.

Isfahan Raspberry, Coconut Banana, Cheese Cake Cassis, are just some of the new flavors joining Roldan's creative and elegant donut collection,

what we thought:

Like every year, this time too we stand behind our statement that it is hard to compete with the impression effect of Roldan's donuts.

But it is important to note that beyond all the pearls and ornaments - there are very, very good donuts.

Roldin stays more or less around the same popular collection, with a few additions and upgrades each year.

This year steals the show Truffle Royal stuffed with chocolate ganache, coated in glaze noir and full of milk chocolate chips.

Like all construction donuts it is challenging to eat - but when you level the way you end up discovering a great chocolate donut, one of the best we have come across this year and in general.

All the other donuts also managed to impress and appeal to children and adults alike.

Prices:

NIS 6-10 for regular donuts, NIS 14 for a special donut.

FIKA donuts (Photo: FIKA)

FIKA: Destructive Swedes

About the collection: At

Pika Swedish-Tel Aviv Bakery, they created a collection of donuts with a touch of Scandinavian and Nordic flavors.

There are in the collection some successes from years gone by, alongside some donuts in new editions.

All of Pika's donuts are baked, not fried, and all of them are seasoned with cardamom, and there is also one saffron donut.

What we thought:

We flew over Pika's donuts.

But as every year, we will back down and say - they are not for everyone.

The cardamom flavors in the dough are strong, and their flavors are unconventional.

Classic foodies donuts.

Standing out for good - a DAIM chocolate donut and salted caramel, a rhubarb donut with Italian meringue, and of course - our beloved symbol that will be on display this year as well.

All of them, without exception, boast excellent, airy dough, original and unconventional flavors.

Prices:

NIS 12-15.

Biscotti America Collection (Photo: Boaz Lavie, Styling: Anat Lebel)

Biscotti: Discover America

About the collection:

Biscotti Confectionery offers an American-inspired donut collection. Along with the classics filled with jam, milk jelly cream and chocolate cream, confectioner Rosella Yona has created a variety of hand-made spoiled donuts, inspired by American desserts - crack pie, lemon pie, red velvet, cinnamon, jam toast and peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie.

What we thought:

Biscotti's donut dough is as great as ever. We tasted the crack pie - it was sweet, sweet, sweet, sticky, dirty and corrupt. Did you want America? You got America. The connection to the crack pie is not cracked to the end here, although there is a piece of the famous oatmeal cake on top, but the donut itself is filled with salted caramel cream (the undisputed star of 2021), topped with toffee ganache. In our eyes there could have been attrition if the crack pie story had been taken more seriously. But still, a very tasty donut, fun and terribly sweet.

Prices:

NIS 12 for the special donuts, NIS 6 for the classics.

The products can be purchased at the "Biscotti" store or by phone order nationwide.

Tati & Ilan's: Donuts that make everyone happy

About the collection:

"Tati-Ilan's" offers a new donut collection for the holiday, conducted by chef confectioners Shani Shaul and Liran Hever, which includes 7 flavors. Among the special flavors: cinnamon donut, malabi donut, mango passion fruit donut and more.

What we thought: Tati-Ilan's donuts were successful and delicious, the dough was airy, did not feel soaked in oil and was not too sweet. They were all very pretty and stylish, but did not feel exaggerated with unnecessary nonsense. Simply delicious, original and beautiful. The children's favorite was a chocolate donut - filled with chocolate ganache, chocolate icing and candies. A donut that makes happy children, also the oreo donut, was filled with oreo cream and the kids flew into it. In the adult segment, the donut that won the most sympathy was the Malby donut, filled with patisserie cream and rose water. Malabi syrup coating, pistachios and coconut. The cream was really delicate, the donut tasted awful, not too sweet and gives a feeling of quality dessert.

Prices:

NIS 8-14 for a donut.

Can be ordered through Volt as well as purchased at any Tati & Illness chain.

Nordinho's Meritosi (Photo: Haim David)

The Italians: Nordinho

About the collection:

The we like you too group and the confectioner Sagi Meller give their take to the traditional donut - with the meritosi - a baked Italian brioche pastry, which receives a variety of new fillings in honor of Hanukkah - from lemon mascarpone, blueberry yogurt and chestnuts, coffee, ginger and tonic .

What we thought:

First of all, it should be noted that the appearance of the meritos is beautiful, and they managed to excite even seventy (very!) Donuts. The brioche dough is insanely airy, and the fact that it is baked makes it lighter than the donut. However the dough is not so sweet and those who love sweets in the extreme may be disappointed. The fillings themselves are great - stood out especially well from the lemon meringue and coffee. A case that may well steal the show at the upcoming candle lighting.

In addition, the group also offers crawlers - crispy French donuts made from fried puff pastry, and pancakes.

Prices:

Holiday maritzu - NIS 26 (NIS 120 for a package of 6), crawler - NIS 18, donut - NIS 12.

Mimi's donuts (Photo: Daniel Leila)

Mimi: Full of confidence

About the collection:

Mimi, Nono's patisserie-bakery-coffee branch, approached Hanukkah with a more classic approach, free of raves and full of self-confidence. Spoiler: This approach has proven itself. Mimi offers 4 donuts made from Italian-oriented yeast dough, and two without wheat flour.

What we thought: In

the first wing you can find a "classic" that will provide receipts for the one who insists on staying in the "simple with jam" worlds, an airy sugar and cinnamon donut relatively light in genre, chocolate (filled with chocolate cream and ganache and chocolate pearls) very rich and our favorite Caramel (filled with salted caramel cream and toffee cream) Bitter-sweet, deep-tasting, and mature.

In the gluten-free wing you can find a classic-jam version and a chocolate representative similar in its characteristics to its floury sister, both slightly heavier (more naturally) and less devoted, but still excellent, probably given the alternatives.

Prices:

NIS 8-12 per donut.

Available at Nono and Mimi branches

Confectionery named: Donuts which are dessert

About the collection:

Mickey's donut collection was inspired by desserts from around the world, for example there is a crème brûlée donut, a meritzo donut, a kaddif donut, Ferrero Rocher and more.

What we thought:

Mickey's donuts were beautiful and delicious without exception with airy dough and rich creams.

But we admit that this time with all due respect to all the invested and spoiled donuts, we especially enjoyed the simple donut with the jam which was airy and full of quality strawberry jam.

Prices:

NIS 9-19.

Party in Haifa, Second Confectionery (Photo: Yifat Cohen)

The Haifa women who give a head start: a second confectionery

About the collection:

Haifa and the old confectionery Shani, as usual, released a colorful and creative collection with donuts such as caramelized popcorn, meringue brula, candy land, brownie patisserie and more.

What we thought:

Shani's donuts made it all the way from Haifa to Tel Aviv, stood up for it heroically and kept it fresh and vital and this is also important to note. The colorful collection managed to delight and surprise, and although this time there were no children among the tasters, The tasters. The donuts all received good reviews and were a great pleasure for the tasters.

Ta-Dam Pizza Donuts (Photo: Shiran Matityahu)

The gimmicks: Tadam!

About the Collection:

Tadam Sweet Boutique!

By Sheeran Matityahu offers Duants Pizza: Triangular shaped donuts with fillings and toppings in 6 different flavors: Nutella, Berry Pistachio, Proti Strawberries, Salted Caramel, Pretzel Cream, and Click-Whipped Cream.

What we thought:

Those who do not have the power for gimmicks can move on.

However, there was enthusiasm in the systemic tasting, and there were even those who claimed that the donut triangles were more convenient to eat than regular donuts.

And if we put aside for a moment the visual interest that is photographed great for Instagram, the donut texture also plays a not bad role here at all.

The fillings were generous, and especially the Nutella Triangle, which filled the mouth with a great chocolate flavor with nut chips.

Prices:

NIS 15 for a donut triangle.

Around the World: Jacobs

About the collection:

As a tribute to all those people who have not boarded a plane and left the borders of our country for too long, Jacobs has launched a collection of donuts inspired by the countries of the world. Confectioner Alon Goldman has built a collection of baked donuts, buttery brioche dough and vanilla touches. Among the global flavors are, for example, an alfalfa donut in tribute to Argentina, an Italian tiramisu donut and even a falafel donut - a baked donut in the shape of a falafel dish, filled with patisserie cream, lotus chocolate balls and sauce. Vanilla white chocolate.

What we thought:

For us the fact that the donuts were baked was a complete advantage to their credit, so we did not have too many guilt feelings after we devoured three (maybe four, maybe five, who counts) in a row.

The taste of the donuts was not harmed in any way by the fact that they were all baked and not fried.

The look of the "international" donuts is winking and inviting and the fillings are just great.

The buttery brioche dough is also wonderful and the sweet (but not too much) touches of vanilla are felt in it.

The tasters' favorites were the Argentinian stuffed with milk jam cream, coated in white chocolate and Alphaphores crumbs and toasted coconut.

And the "Israeli" in the form of falafel is beautiful and delicious.

Prices:

NIS 8-14.5.

Nomili's donuts (Photo: Daniel Leila)

Simple favors: Nomili patisserie

About the collection:

Pastry chef Dan Kelly has created for Nomili Patisserie a donut collection made entirely of natural pickles and butter.

The natural sourdough, which Dan Kelly has been cultivating for several years, creates a stronger leavening for the donut dough, deeper flavors and a softer texture.

What we thought: The

investment in trying to make special donuts on the one hand, but not excessive on the other.

The size of the donuts is good, neither too big nor too small.

Delicious and non-greasy dough.

The jam donut was good, the cream patisserie and streusel, and the hazelnut cream praline cream in a berry coating that created a perfect balance of textures - a Hanukkah party in the mouth.

Prices:

NIS 11-12.

Dalal's Lady Pink Donut (Photo: Kiss & Tal Creative X Details)

Accuracy: Dalal

About the collection:

Pastry chef Timur Lavie and the Dalal Confectionery team are launching a small and sweet collection.

Three types of donuts (strawberry jam, chocolate or pistachio ganache) and two types of baked brioche donuts - Lady Pink with raspberry ganache and pistachio chips and Mr. White, with white icing, coconut chips and a classic vanilla patisserie.

What we thought:

Also this year at Dalal are focused on a limited number of products, the collection has remained as in the last two years, because with success do not argue.

Dalal's donuts are good and high quality, the dough is pampering, not too sweet, and the fillings also feel high-quality and unflattering, a beauty of donuts.

For those who do need the more special extras, the two donuts were born, here too Dalal is doing not a bad job at all.

Prices:

donut NIS 5-9, donut - NIS 24.

The donut cake of Boutique Central (Photo: Tal Sivan Tziporin)

Here's the cake: Central Boutique

About the collection:

This year, in addition to a collection of baked brioche donuts, the Central Boutique chain also offers a festive donut cake, in a bubble version (bubbleloaf), in which each donut is filled with a different ceramic filling.

What we thought:

On the one hand - this is a flash for those who are tired of the donut routine and it is perfect for entertaining.

The cake looks completely different from anything we were used to getting at Hanukkah and the style of the cake (also called monkey bread or gold crown) gives a completely different experience - everyone chooses the filling they want, a piece and food is done.

Its dough is particularly fluffy and airy and the fillings are precise in their flavors, not liquid and particularly tasty, but on the other hand - a donut is not.

Despite the attempt to present the cake as a donut cake, its taste is quite far from reminiscent of a donut and it will not close the corner for you if you have a craving for a real donut.

But if you fancy a sweet and delicious festive dessert - it definitely meets the demand.

Price:

NIS 64 for a cake.

Donuts at Maison Kaiser (Photo: Afik Gabay)

Surprising: Maison Kaiser

About the collection:

Mason Kaiser offers seven types of donuts for each day of the week - pistachio, lemon, hazelnut chocolate, salted caramel, strawberry jam and berries, halva and Mont Blanc.

What we thought:

Contrary to expectations, the Maison Kaiser donuts are not fluffy at all.

Their appearance is completely normal, however these are very good donuts.

The dough is delicious and high quality, and they are delicate and precise.

The lemon cremo donut stood out, coated in charred Italian meringue.

An original and wonderful donut.

NIS 9-12.
