US actor Kevin Spacey has to pay the production company of the Netflix series "House of Cards" around 31 million dollars for breach of contract.
A court of arbitration had found that the 62-year-old had violated the code of conduct that had been contractually agreed with the production company MRC, as reported by US media such as CNN, "Variety" and "The Hollywood Reporter".
Spacey had played the lead role in the Netflix hit "House of Cards" for five seasons until allegations of sexual assault and harassment against Spacey were raised in the course of the #MeToo debate.
Crew members of the series, in which he also worked as and as an executive producer, accused Spacey of sexual harassment.
MRC fired Spacey, the production of the sixth season had to be stopped, the series had to be rewritten and cut, which led to losses in the tens of millions, it said.
Spacey's lawyers, in turn, argued that their client's behavior was not a major factor in the loss of revenue.
The arbitral tribunal agreed with MRC.
The decision is final after a legal dispute lasting more than three years.
