Patient
"Are you finished yet?"
Wolfgang Kreischer, general practitioner
"Yes, I'm already done."
1 p.m., Berlin-Zehlendorf.
The general practitioner Wolfgang Kreischer and his team would actually have lunch break now.
Instead, they are educated and vaccinated.
Wolfgang Kreischer, general practitioner
"After the vaccination, you may have a fever, but I'll say: It's for a good cause."
There are once again high expectations for the approximately 55,000 general practitioners in Germany.
With the so-called booster vaccination, you are supposed to help break the fourth wave.
Wolfgang Kreischer, General
Practitioner »Why are we boosting now after six months?
Well, six months is a compromise.
After four months, the vaccination protection already wears off, but after six months it is high time.
Then take a seat in my room, you can give me that. "
Kreischer currently manages 100 vaccinations per week in his practice.
Since the Stiko recommended the third corona vaccination for all adults, the rush for appointments has increased dramatically again.
Wolfgang Kreischer, general practitioner
"We must have 20 to 30 e-mails a day, we have calls that we can no longer count because when we hang up the phone it rings again."
A demand that his team could hardly meet - especially since the waiting room was already jam-packed in the middle of the flu season.
Wolfgang Kreischer, General
Practitioner »Well, it's a heavy burden for the practices.
You usually don't see it outside at all.
Anyone who comes in here and has a vaccination is outside again after a quarter of an hour, because they don't notice the whole process in the practice. "
Review: We were already at Dr.
Kreischer, who is also the chairman of the Berlin General Practitioner Association.
The prioritization had just been lifted and the organizational problems were great.
Wolfgang Kreischer, General
Practitioner »
Mr Spahn is sometimes very brisk and promises the blue of the sky.
That doesn't fit our style of practice.
The lifting of the prioritization posed major problems for us because the citizens believe that they can now be vaccinated with any vaccine at any time. "
And today?
Is the dissatisfaction with politics still high?
Kreischer would have liked the Minister of Health to have developed a strategy for booster vaccinations at an early stage.
Wolfgang Kreischer, General
Practitioner »We slept through valuable time in the summer.
That doesn't mean we general practitioners, we would have been ready.
But that is clearly a mistake in politics.
We had the general election, so other things were important for the politicians.
But now it is time to act. "
There is no question that the booster is necessary to get the infection rate under control this winter.
Studies show that the protection, especially with vaccinations with Biontech and AstraZeneca, decreases significantly after six months at the latest or is no longer available at all.
But it is also clear that the third injection cannot acutely change anything in the completely overcrowded intensive care units.
