The US novelist Noah Gordon is dead. He died at the age of 95, according to Gordon's official website.
"It is with great sadness that Noah Gordon’s family announces that Noah died in his house on November 22, 2021," it says.
His best-known work is the novel "The Medicus" from 1986. The world bestseller is set in the eleventh century and describes the adventures of the English orphan Robert Cole, who set off to Persia to be trained as a doctor by a famous polymath.
Gordon wrote the novel as the first part of a trilogy.
The follow-up novels "Der Schamane" (1992) and "Die Erben des Medicus" (1995) were also great successes.
Gordon grew up in the US east coast state of Massachusetts.
Towards the end of World War II, he served in the US Army.
He broke off a later medical degree after only one semester to study journalism instead.
Gordon worked, among other things, for the newspaper "Boston Herald" and was editor-in-chief of the science magazine "Science".
Gordon published his first novel "The Rabbi" in 1965. The work was based on his experiences as a Jew who grew up in the USA.
Gordon published his last novel "The Winemaker" in 2012.
The book is set in Catalonia at the end of the 19th century.
"Noah's life and work have touched the lives of millions of people around the world," said his family.
