The Aldi discounter chain is also relying more and more on online business.

The company is now testing the link between the branches and the web shop.

Essen - A supermarket without cash registers, price debiting via app and cameras that control purchases: the local Aldi branches are not quite as far as the ultra-modern supermarkets of the American mega-company Amazon *.

Nevertheless, Aldi Nord is taking a step towards modern, digital shopping.

The company is currently testing special sales terminals in some branches that will take grocery shopping to a new level.

Aldi Nord: sales terminals connected to webshop

According to

food newspaper.net

ten Aldi branches in Seefeld around Berlin and in Radevormwald in the Bergisches Land are part of a test phase of the discounter.

In the shops there, customers encounter large displays, the so-called sales terminals, when shopping.

There, consumers can see the entire online range, select products and order the selected products directly using QR codes.

In this way, Aldi customers have access to the discounter's entire product range, even in smaller branches with fewer assortments.

By linking the on-site shops with the web shop, Aldi might then be able to further strengthen its online business.

Aldi Nord: Corona-compliant displays

The test phase has been running since October and until the end of March 2022.

It remains to be seen how well the digital shopping aid will be received by customers and whether Aldi will then use the terminals across the board in other branches.

In any case, the company has also adapted to the current conditions of the corona pandemic with the displays.

Half of the devices in the test are equipped with special non-touch displays.

This means that the screen does not have to be touched - hand gestures from around ten centimeters away are sufficient, which the display then recognizes.

This guarantees that no viruses can be transmitted.

With regard to the corona pandemic, Aldi is also clearly against a 2G regulation in the branches.

The company confirms this to our editorial team.
