He not only played a landlord in the TV series "Lindenstrasse", he was one himself: Kostas Papanastasiou died on Sunday at the age of 84.

This is what his son Marc-Alexej Papanastasiou told the German press agency.

The »Tagesspiegel« had previously reported on the actor's death.

From episode 3 to 794, Papanastasiou played the role of "Acropolis" host Panaiotis Sarikakis in the popular ARD series in the 1980s and 1990s.

In reality, too, the Greek fulfilled this role, as host of the restaurant "Terzo Mondo" in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

Papanastasiou ran the restaurant for 45 years, then his son took over.

Kostas Papanastasiou studied architecture in Berlin and trained as an actor there.

In addition to "Lindenstrasse", he played roles under the direction of Bernhard Wicki, in "Tatort" and in a musical in the Berlin Theater on Schiffbauerdamm.

In 2012, then Federal President Joachim Gauck awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit.

The reason stated that Papanastasiou campaigned “with great energy” for artists and those in need: “In his restaurant in the 1970s and 1980s, Greek guest workers, support groups for the liberation movements in the Third World and numerous artists from the GDR found had to leave, first support and a place of community. «He also organized collections for relief supplies to Georgia.
