In the middle of the fourth corona wave, federal politics is reacting with new regulations.

This also affects supermarkets.

Munich - New Corona rules have been in effect in Germany since Wednesday, November 24th.

Politicians are reacting to the steadily increasing number of new infections with Sars-CoV-2.

The Robert Koch Institute reports new highs every day in terms of case numbers and incidences.

The basis of the new regulations is the new version of the so-called Infection Protection Act.

With the publication of the final version of the law in the Federal Gazette, the new Corona regulations come into force.

The main innovation is the 3G rule at the workplace.

This affects supermarkets and discounters, among others.

So far, the debate about rules in the branches has centered on the customer's perspective.

For example, the federal states of Hesse and Lower Saxony decided that supermarkets can rely on the 2G model - and thus only grant access to vaccinated and recovered people.

However, these were discarded relatively quickly with the reference to basic care - even those who had not been vaccinated.

3G in the supermarket: new corona rules at Aldi

In the course of the passage of the Infection Protection Act by the Bundestag and Bundesrat, the discussion is developing in a new direction.

The background to this is the aforementioned 3G rule in the workplace.

Accordingly, employees have to prove that they have been vaccinated twice against the coronavirus, have recovered from the Covid-19 disease or have tested negative for Sars-CoV-2.

However, if you do not provide this evidence, the new version of the law does not allow you to do your work, i.e. not work in the supermarket.

For practical reasons, home office is probably out of the question in discount stores.

Most recently, Kaufland spoke to

Merkur.de

- and explained the new corona rules in the supermarkets.

Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord describe the topic in a similar way.

Regarding the new 3G rule in the workplace, Aldi Süd explains to

Merkur.de

.

"According to the expected from November 24th.

Nationwide applicable regulation, employees are only allowed to enter the workplace with valid 3G proof or a supervised self-test must be completed immediately after entering, ”said a spokeswoman.

3G at Aldi: Supermarket employees have to provide evidence, customers do not

A spokesman for Aldi Nord also emphasized against

Merkur.de

that the supermarket chain is based on the "legal requirements". These will be implemented "gradually", the spokesman continued. Compared to Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord, Kaufland had stated that they “basically follow the regulations of the federal states”. Kaufland thus referred to possible further corona measures of a regional kind. The Infection Protection Act only provides the basis for decision-making by the federal states - in other words: A federal state can opt for a 2G or 3G model in supermarkets and discounters. A few weeks ago, Kaufland had already made a clear statement to merkur.de: "As a food retailer that ensures basic supplies, we are not affected by the 2G regulation."

Aldi Süd had also

clearly positioned

itself towards

Merkur.de

for the 2G option: "Our aim is to continue to provide all customers with everything they need for their daily shopping at all times." There are no access restrictions in the Aldi Süd branches planned for customers.

Corona rules in Germany: 2G is controversial in supermarkets

However, lawyers are very critical of such developments. The

ZDF

reports that plaintiffs in court apparently have a relatively high probability of success with regard to the repeal of a 2G regulation in the relevant supermarket. Erik Schweickert, retail policy spokesman for the FDP in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg, underlined this recently: "A restriction of access for unvaccinated citizens to the retail trade is a disproportionate restriction of freedom and would exclude them from the basic supply," said Schweickert in a press release. There was also criticism of a possible 2G rule in supermarkets and discounters from federal politics. Wolfgang Kubicki, deputy federal chairman of the FDP, told the

, related to state politics in Lower Saxony: That has "nothing to do with a meaningful pandemic fight," continues Kubicki.

Meanwhile, Black Friday 2021 is just around the corner and the trade beckons with a flood of special offers.
