Just recently, a robbery on a luxury department store in the San Francisco Bay Area caused a sensation: According to eyewitnesses, a group of around 80 people gained access to a branch of the Nordstrom chain.
After the attack, the alleged perpetrators got into cars and fled.
Now, according to media reports, another attack occurred in the US state of California: On the night before Thanksgiving, thieves stormed another Nordstrom store in the Westfield Topanga Mall in Los Angeles.
The criminals entered the store around 7 p.m. and stole seven or eight high-quality wallets that are sold in the store.
Then the group managed to escape with the help of a car.
A member of the security staff was sprayed with a chemical during the attack, the police said.
Rescue workers rushed to the scene, but there were no arrests.
Police assume a planned series of robberies
With this, Los Angeles became the scene of a spectacular robbery twice within a few days: It was only on Monday that around 20 people broke into a luxury department store in the metropolis to steal goods worth $ 5,000.
When the police arrived, the group split up.
One vehicle was engaged in a chase that resulted in the arrest of three suspects.
As the newspaper "San Francisco Chronicle" reported, the police are assuming a planned series of robberies.
As Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong told the Chronicle, investigators suspect that it is one or more groups of people who band together for break-ins and apparently meet online.
According to figures from the California Department of Justice, crime in the west coast state has actually fallen to historically low levels.
However, robberies reportedly increased this year compared to last year.
In other crimes, however, there was a decrease, which is mainly attributed to the corona restrictions.
