The government announced on Thursday several measures to fight against the new wave of Covid-19 which is affecting France this fall.

The government is tightening the screws in the face of the 5th wave of Covid-19 which is hitting France hard.

Olivier Véran thus announced this Thursday the obligation to wear a mask indoors among the measures to try to stem the increase in contamination in the country.

The mask will now be made compulsory in all indoor places where the health pass is requested, but also in some outdoor places with a high concentration of people, in particular food markets or even Christmas markets.

“From tomorrow a decree will make it compulsory to wear a mask indoors in public places.

The prefects may also locally require the wearing of masks outdoors, depending on the evolution of the epidemic, in particular for events such as Christmas markets or flea markets ”specified the Minister of Health.

Prefects could already adjust the rule

Until then, the mask was no longer compulsory outdoors, or even indoors in places where the sanitary pass is required.

A practice that raised questions about the movements away from his table in the restaurant or for the waiters, for example.

Until then, the prefects could already impose it, but the national rule remained individual freedom outside.

Since this weekend, the Minister of Health had constantly exchanged with the President of the Republic "to consider the right options".

Among the new measures announced by Olivier Véran this Thursday, also include the opening of the vaccination booster to all adults or the reduction of the validity period of PCR tests.

A new confinement or curfew is however not planned, and no gauge is imposed in places of public gathering.

"This is not at all topical" added the Minister of Health during his press conference.
