At the Ascó nuclear power plant in the Spanish region of Catalonia, a person died after a carbon dioxide leak.
Three more were taken to the hospital, the local emergency services announced on Wednesday.
The incident has to do with the fire protection system of the power plant and is not related to radioactive material, said the regional fire department on Twitter.
The leak occurred during routine work, reports, among other things, the "Deutsche Welle".
Shortly afterwards, the emergency services announced that they were preparing to leave the premises.
Together with employees of the plant, it was ensured that the systems were working properly.
The three people who were taken to the hospital suffered minor injuries from inhaling carbon dioxide, emergency services said.
