White (pre) Christmas season: Just in time for the first Advent, the German Weather Service (DWD) expects up to ten centimeters of snow in the western low mountain ranges.
According to the information, it can snow even in the lower elevations, the snowfall limit is 300 to 400 meters.
A DWD meteorologist said that “a toboggan run or a snowball fight might well be possible in the mountains”.
The cause of the change in weather are therefore two low pressure areas over Scandinavia and the western Mediterranean.
They will provide some snow on Friday in the Bavarian Forest and in the Alps.
In the night of Saturday, further precipitation will set in from the Benelux, which can lead to slippery roads locally.
"On Saturday, wet and cold, dreary weather will dominate the weather in many regions," said the meteorologist.
Because the temperatures are comparatively high, usually not much of the snow remains.
The maximum values on Saturday in the north fluctuate between four and eight degrees, otherwise between zero and four degrees.
At night, however, it goes down to minus four degrees.
According to the DWD, there is moderate frost in the mountains.
