But is the salary always everything?

The most lucrative salaries * can be expected by young skilled workers in less well-known professions.

This is what Ruth Maria Schüler, an expert on social security and distribution at the Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft (IW), said in an interview on the website of the institute's information service (iwd).

Together with a colleague, the researcher analyzed data from the Federal Employment Agency and identified the 20 most lucrative professions for young skilled workers.

In doing so, she found that the top 20 professions “are not necessarily the best known”.

The expert from the employer-related institute concludes in the interview that although there are numerous professions in which there are good salary prospects for young skilled workers, many young adults do not have these professions “on their radar” at all.

According to IW, the median wage for young skilled workers under 30 is over 4000 euros gross per month.

The median wage indicates the value at which half of the employees earn more, the other half less.

High salaries are not only to be expected with a university degree.

There are also apprenticeships in which you can sometimes earn more than in professions that require a degree, says Schüler.

Increase the visibility of professions

The expert believes it is important to increase the visibility of the professions and to better convey in the professional orientation what exactly these activities entail.

At the same time, she points out that wages are just one of many characteristics that make a job attractive.

She advises you to always choose a job that suits your interests and abilities and that you can enjoy for a long time.
