The journalist Swen Thissen becomes editor-in-chief of the news portal watson.de.

He will succeed Kinga Rustler in January 2022, as the Ströer Group announced on Thursday.

Thissen is currently head of the digital editorial team at stern.de, previously he was Head of Social Media there.

Rustler is said to be moving within the Ströer Group and will become Director Content with overarching tasks for the media brands belonging to the group such as T-Online, Watson and kino.de, among others.

Since the news portal "Watson.de" went online in March 2018, the editorial management has changed several times.

After a falling out with the first editor-in-chief Gesa Mayr and her deputy Anne-Kathrin Gerstlauer, Arne Henkes initially managed the portal temporarily.

Kinga Rustler took over in April 2019. She managed to develop watson.de into a "leading news brand for young adults and to develop a journalistic voice with weight throughout Germany," said Marco Schmitz, Managing Director of the Ströer Content Group.
