While we will have to wait a bit for statistics from the last two years of the corona, other numbers show evolving trends in the world population.

It has been more than 50 years since people lived longer, but if you delve a little deeper into the statistics of the last decade, a worrying trend is revealed: the proportion of boys and young people who are dead is on the rise in most parts of the world.

According to a huge analysis using data from the Seattle Institute of Health and Evaluation Institute, which manages a huge database of health statistics from around the world, researchers analyzed the number of deaths, lost life years and mortality rates by sex and age groups of young people in 204 states.

The findings, published in the medical journal The Lancet, showed that about 61 percent of all deaths among 10- to 24-year-olds worldwide last year were of males.

The total number of deaths of adolescents has decreased compared to previous decades, but the gap between men and women is widening.

Since 1950, deaths among women aged 10 to 24 worldwide have dropped by 30 percent, but the decline among young men has dropped by only 15 percent.

About 4,000 adolescents die every day around the world.

About 4,000 teenagers die every day around the world - and most of them are boys.

This gender gap is widening in most regions, with the exception of high-income countries, Central Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, where the gender gap has actually narrowed over the last 30 years, although it still exists.

Is this a dangerous global trend or does it very much depend on what part of the world you are in?

Preventable deaths

In general, mortality rates are closely related to the level of development of a country, while in richer countries there are fewer deaths of young people and vice versa.

The leading cause of death among young people has also varied between regions.

The main cause of death for adolescents was accidents in all regions except high-income countries, where cancer was the main cause, and South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, which led to food or waterborne diseases and diseases such as HIV.

Of all deaths between the ages of 10 and 24 worldwide, 32 percent were due to unintentional injuries, violence and confrontation;

Thirty-two percent were due to infectious diseases and nutritional deficiencies, and 27 percent were due to non-communicable diseases.

The remaining 8 percent were due to suicide.

The researchers note that many of these early deaths are preventable.

Since 1980, deaths from infectious diseases have declined sharply as a proportion of all deaths in most parts of the world, except in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, where they have remained common.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, violence has remained a significant contributor to young men's deaths, and there has been no improvement in all-cause mortality among older adolescent men there over the past 20 years.

Violence is one of the leading causes of early death of young people.

The underlying factors behind all of these patterns vary from region to region.

This means that there is no "right for everyone" solution to the problem.

In their paper, the researchers conclude that future efforts to reduce the deaths of adolescents around the world must ensure that boys and young men are not left behind.

Will the corona affect the numbers?

And what about Corona?

The data the study relied on were taken before the epidemic but Dr. Joseph Ward, lead author of research from the University of London University has a lot to say about the impact of corona on young people. This is because deaths among young people are much lower than those of adults

Education has been shown to be beneficial to health.

This is related to increasing profits and employment opportunities later in life, and also to an increased understanding of health and the impact and importance of adopting certain health behaviors.
