BELLUNO - A large wooden dragon stands on the Ape Cimbra in Lavarone (Trento), where the storm Vaia in October 2018 wreaked havoc in the woods.

It is the work with which the Venetian sculptor Marco Martalar wanted to remember the terrible meteorological event that swept away millions of trees in the mountains of the Triveneto, and at the same time enhance the Avez del Prinzep.

The Dragon's body is made entirely of scraps of trees felled by the storm's fury.

It took 3,000 vines and 2,000 pieces of shrub waste to complete the work.

    Martalar has been working on wood carving for over a month.

The Dragon of Vaia is 6 meters high and 7 meters long;

to give it shape Martalar used a technique that provides an internal structure, a wooden skeleton, on which the recycled material is then fixed.

The work will change over time, with the passing of the seasons, until the dragon decays.
