(ANSA) - GENEVA, NOV 26 - The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that a meeting of experts on the new variant B.1.1.529 of Covid will be held today in Geneva, but "it will take several weeks to understand its impact ".
The WHO is closely monitoring the new variant and has called a meeting of the Technical Advisory Group for today, the spokesperson for the UN agency explained.
The goal is to declare whether we are dealing with a variant of "interest" or a variant of "concern".
But it will take several weeks to know what it potentially means in terms of contagiousness and the impact on diagnoses, treatments and vaccines.
