In Germany, a new government will take over responsibility shortly.
Consumers have to be prepared for several price increases in advance.
Berlin - On Wednesday, the representatives of the SPD, Greens and FDP announced that they had agreed to form a government just under two months after the 2021 federal election.
The joint coalition agreement outlined the changes that the citizens of the Federal Republic can expect in the next four years.
Even if the future government under Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to forego tax increases, consumers must expect prices to rise in some areas.
Although the coalition agreement still leaves some financing questions unanswered, it shows additional costs that have already been planned in other areas.
According to a report by
, consumers can expect higher costs in six cases ..
Traffic light coalition plans: Consumers beware - plane tickets and diesel are becoming more expensive
The main dominant theme is traffic.
The new traffic light government wants to bring Germany back on the 1.5-degree path set by the Paris Climate Agreement and thus counteract the ongoing climate change.
This is particularly evident in the coalition agreement in the following points.
When it comes to air travel, the traffic light coalition wants to declare war on dumping prices.
Flight tickets with prices in the range of ten euros should be a thing of the past.
"We will work with the European Union to ensure that flight tickets cannot be sold at a price below taxes, surcharges, fees and charges," says the coalition agreement.
In addition to aviation, consumers can also expect price increases on the road.
Above all, the traffic light coalition wants to align the prices of diesel and gasoline with reference to the EU energy tax directive.
As a result, diesel drivers would have to dig deeper into their pockets at the petrol station in the future.
In return, however, the future government wants to examine the current vehicle tax and, if necessary, initiate tax breaks for diesel cars.
Traffic light parties want to end funding for plug-in hybrids - truck tolls should rise
In the legislative period, the funding of plug-in hybrids and the improvement of plug-in hybrids in company car taxation are also to be discontinued.
In the future, the latter will only be geared towards fully electric vehicles.
The model for subsidies is also to be reformed and will only be applied to cars with a demonstrably positive climate protection effect.
As a final point in the area of transport, the new government plans to raise the truck toll and also include small vans weighing more than 3.5 tons in the CO₂ tax.
Until now, the limit for vehicles subject to toll was 7.5 tons.
Meat could become more expensive in the future - traffic light parties are planning changes
When it comes to nutrition, too, consumers will most likely have to be prepared for a price increase.
This will most likely affect the price of meat.
"We want to significantly reduce emissions from ammonia and methane while taking animal welfare into account," the traffic light parties write in the coalition agreement.
This will probably result in stricter holding requirements for livestock, which in turn would result in higher costs for farmers and would have to be offset by higher meat prices.
Pension reform under traffic light government: self-employed obliged to provide for old age
Ultimately, higher costs for consumers could also arise in the case of retirement.
In the future, the self-employed and employees will have to pay into the pension insurance if they have not already chosen a private pension product.
The traffic light parties describe this project in the coalition agreement as the "obligation to provide for old age with freedom of choice".
How the individual points from the coalition agreement will then be implemented in the political process remains to be seen.
However, the first indications for consumers are certain.
