A woman was slightly injured in a disinfectant dispenser fire in Essen.
The donor caught fire on Thursday in the stairwell of the Kolping vocational training center for an unexplained cause, the fire brigade said.
Two of the 45 residents took the donor, which was on fire, outside before the fire brigade arrived.
The woman was slightly injured and taken to hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation.
According to the fire brigade, the second helper was uninjured.
All other residents had left the building before the fire brigade arrived.
The police have opened an investigation into the cause of fire.
The aim of the Kolping Vocational Training Center is to offer "young people with multiple support needs" initial vocational training and social rehabilitation, according to the homepage.
There are various housing options for the participants.
