Chestnuts shouldn't be missing at Christmas time.

But how are they prepared in the oven and in the pot - and is one variant better than the other?

Strolling a little through the festively decorated city with a mulled wine * in one hand and a packet of chestnuts in the other: for many, this is an integral part of the Advent season.

You can also easily prepare the roasted chestnuts yourself and enjoy at home.

We will show you what you have to be aware of.

Boil chestnuts in a pot - this is how it works

The preparation of chestnuts is very easy.

If you want to cook them in a saucepan, you only need two to three ingredients:

chestnuts, water and, if necessary, a little salt

.

The amount of water should be enough to completely cover the chestnuts in the pot.

How to proceed now:

  • Before cooking,

    cut

    the chestnuts

    crosswise

so that they do not burst at the high temperatures in the saucepan.

The cuts should reach to the pulp.

  • Now put the chestnuts in the pot and cook them

    for about 20 minutes

    .

If you want, you can add a little salt to give the chestnuts a more individual taste.

  • As soon as the skin has burst open at the incision, the chestnuts are ready and can be taken out of the pot.

  • Let the chestnuts cool down and remove the skin - you can enjoy the sweet chestnuts.

Preparation: Roast the chestnuts on the baking sheet

All you need to prepare the chestnuts on the baking sheet is the

chestnuts and a bowl of tap water

.

How to proceed:

  • As with cooking in a pot, when roasting the chestnuts on the baking sheet, cut into them first so that they do not burst.

  • Place the chestnuts with the incision site up on the baking sheet and slide it at

    175 degrees Celsius

    and

    circulating air

    in the oven.

The oven does not necessarily have to be preheated.

The bowl of tap water comes in to prevent the chestnuts from drying out too much in the heat.

  • As soon as the incision cracks open a little, the chestnuts are completely roasted - this can take about 20 minutes.

Then you can take them out of the oven, let them cool, and then peel them off.

In terms of taste, it makes

no difference

whether you prepare the chestnuts in a saucepan or on the baking sheet.

Just add a little salt when cooking in the pot to give the chestnuts a more special taste.

Apart from that, hobby cooks can decide whether they prefer to work in the oven or on the stove.
