(ANSA) - BARI, NOV 26 - They allegedly favored some inmates in obtaining talks with family members beyond the permitted number, in exchange for money and gifts, including food, cell phones and computers. For this reason, two agents of the Prison Police serving in the Terni prison (BAT) were arrested. The investigations, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Trani, revealed the involvement of a group of prison policemen in a "complex criminal activity". There are 29 people under investigation, with various accusations of misdirection, embezzlement, corruption, extortion and abuse of office.
Searches are underway in 15 homes in the provinces of Bari, BAT, Taranto and Rome.
The investigations started in March 2020, during the lockdown period, following some personal exposures of the prison police on duty in the Trani prison, sent both to the Trani Public Prosecutor's Office and to the Bari Investigative Unit.
