2021-11-27T07:12:32.587Z

For Mythomane's birthday, his first album released in 1981, the singer released a reissue of Condemned to Death, his musical adaptation of Jean Genet's poems. A new EP with the Italoconnection duo is also listening.

In 1981, Étienne Daho was 25 years old.

He recorded

Mythomane

, his first album.

He won't say

is unveiled as the opening piece.

But the young singer does not believe in success.

“I was thinking of making an album and then maybe afterwards to go back to college.

I didn't have too much ambition,

”he said on BFM TV on Thursday.

Forty years of career later, the “godfather of French pop” has fourteen studio albums to his list.

Romantic lyrics, songs flirting with pop and new wave, a very discreet personality, Étienne Daho conquered his audience.

His tone of voice, soft and warm, is a real "signature".

This voice has become like a trademark, the object of criticism too,” he

says.

But at the end of the day it's an instantly recognizable voice.

I am immediately recognized.

Even with a mask or a hat in the street, as soon as I open my mouth, it's screwed up

”.

"40 years is gigantic"

Between recordings of albums, tours and collaborations, the 65-year-old singer has

“seen nothing happen. When you have a job full of joys, excitement, fantastic projects and meetings, it goes very quickly! Time passes, we run with time, and suddenly we say "40 years is gigantic" "

, he exclaims at the microphone of France Info. For the event, Étienne Daho is reissuing

Le Condamné à mort

,

his musical adaptation of Jean Genet's poem, read by Jeanne Moreau. This augmented version is accompanied by the unpublished live of the title

Sur mon cou

, from the concert given at the Théâtre Antique de Fourvière in 2011.

2021 marks four decades of career, but is also synonymous with a pandemic.

Like many artists, Étienne Daho was inspired by this tormented period.

In collaboration with the Italian electro duo Italoconnection, appeared last October the title

Virus X

, which cleverly combines toxic relationship and pandemic, to read the words:

"No need to unmask myself, because I do not look like any of your exes"

.

The single is now on the EP

The Virus X Experience

, listening for a week.

The project brings together several versions of

Virus X

After having spoiled his audience with reissues and remixes, Etienne Daho's turn to be showered with attention.

On December 3, the Académie française will award the musician the Grand Médaille de la chanson française for his entire career.
