It is in the light of the port of Sète that the artist of the marvelous resource. While the Petit Palais shines with its glass jungle and the Academy of Fine Arts has officially installed it within it, he tells us about his “country workshop” in the city where it all began.


“My country workshop is in Sète, in the heart of the city, on the quays.

I come to take refuge there, almost to hide there, to find solitudes there.

From my window, I see the men on their boats, they are at work every day.

A job always started again (painting, repainting, repairing).

A life lesson.

I live at their own pace even if I stay on earth: the departure at dawn, the return at the end of the afternoon, followed by the cry of the seagulls.

Nature is very present in Sète, the wind, the rain, the full sun in summer, the tides ...

During confinement, the dolphins returned to the port as it was so calm.

It is an old town, built under Louis XIV, whose quays are nicely designed.

In my small workshop which opens due west onto the port, I designed my academician costume with its olive branches open on the chest.
